Hi lovelies, I've noticed something this week. Every one of my glimmers seemed to carry the same quiet thread running through them... hope. Not the loud, dramatic kind, but the gentle reminders that beauty, kindness and possibility are still all around us. Sometimes they're found in extraordinary moments, and sometimes they're as simple as a roast potato or climbing into a warm bed at the end of the day. Whatever form they take, I hope these five glimmers help you notice a few of your own this week. |
Glimmer One - Artists finding unexpected paths I don't know if you've been following Joshua Charow's wonderful series about artists living and creating in old New York warehouse apartments, but if it's new to you you're in for such a treat. The latest video I wanted to share follows an artist whose creative life took an unexpected turn, leading him to hand-paint shoes for the New York City Ballet. It reminded me that creative lives rarely follow a straight line. Life throws curveballs, dreams evolve, and sometimes the path we never imagined ends up becoming something just as meaningful. A lovely reminder that creativity has a way of finding us again. This Artist Hand Paints Shoes for the NYC Ballet |
Glimmer Two - Roast potatoes... because roast potatoes Perhaps it's my Irish heritage, but potatoes are my ultimate comfort food. And roast potatoes? Surely one of life's greatest joys. Golden, crispy edges, fluffy centres... I genuinely think it's impossible to feel miserable while eating one. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. |
Glimmer Three — A little pinch me moment
This week, one of my paintings found its home in a beautifully designed house that has also been featured in House & Garden Australia.
For years I've poured over interiors magazines, admiring the homes and imagining what it might feel like to have my work living in spaces like that. I never imagined that one day it would happen—not because I was promoting it, but because someone genuinely chose my painting to become part of their home.
It feels like one of those rare moments where you quietly stop and think, maybe I'm heading in the right direction.
More than anything, it has strengthened my belief in following the path that feels most true to me as an artist. The more I lean into creating work that feels like home, the more those paintings seem to find the homes they're meant for.
Glimmer Four — Unexpectedly... football
This may be my most surprising glimmer.
I grew up in a football-loving family but never really paid much attention myself. Recently, while spending time with my dad, I started watching a few of the Women's World Cup matches... and before long I found myself completely invested.
Of course, every major sporting event comes with its share of drama and controversy. But what stayed with me most was the overwhelming sense of unity, joy and possibility.
Watching people from every corner of the world cheering, celebrating and simply enjoying the game reminded me that, despite the difficult stories we're often surrounded by, most people really do want kindness, connection and hope.
It made me realise that's exactly what I hope my paintings leave people with too.
Glimmer Five — Colour... always colour
I don't think I'll ever stop being amazed by what colour can do.
Every day I walk into the studio and get to spend hours mixing paints, discovering unexpected combinations and watching a canvas slowly come to life.
It's such a simple thing, but it brings me joy every single day.
And as a bonus glimmer...
Slipping into a warm, cosy bed at the end of the day.
One of life's greatest luxuries.
Until next week,
I hope you find a few unexpected glimmers of your own.

Something that’s been inspiring me...
This album has been on repeat for me ever since its release a few months ago. I may have mentioned it before in a previous newsletter, but I think it deserves another moment in the spotlight.
This Music May Contain Hope by the talented musician Raye is a beautiful reminder that hope isn't about pretending life is always easy or joyful.
What I love about this album is the way it embraces all the different parts of being human. It can be uplifting and full of light, while still acknowledging struggle, uncertainty and all the complexities that make up our lives.
It feels like a celebration of the fact that all kinds of music can exist together in one place. Different sounds, emotions and influences coming together because that is what being an artist is all about—continually changing, evolving, exploring and discovering new ways to express yourself.
Listening to it has made me think about my own work and what I'm searching for in my paintings.
Perhaps, more than anything, I'm searching for that same feeling...
A sense of hope.
Not a perfect, uncomplicated kind of hope, but the kind that exists alongside everything else. The kind that recognises the beauty and the sadness, the memories and the possibilities, and somehow brings them all together.
