5 Glimmers | The little things that keep us going

Hello lovely people,

Here are my five glimmers from this week.

And I'm starting with something that happened because of last week's email...

Glimmer One - A beautiful reply

Last week I sent an email about having one of those weeks where I couldn't seem to find many glimmers at all.

I'll admit, I wasn't completely sure about sending it. I worried afterwards that perhaps it sounded a little whingy, and that wasn't really the point of starting this Glimmers practice.

But then I received the most beautiful reply from a reader.

It reminded me that sometimes sharing the less shiny bits of life can be just as valuable as sharing the good stuff.

We all have those weeks. And perhaps knowing that someone else is having one too can make us feel a little less alone.

So that became my first glimmer of the week.

Sometimes vulnerability can be a glimmer too.

Thank you so much for reaching out x

Glimmer Two - Choosing possibility over fear

One of my daughters has travelled to New York this week with a friend — partly for work and partly to fulfil a dream.

I've loved receiving her little updates along the way and seeing a little glimpse of her adventure.

There is something about watching your children step out into the world as adults that fills me with a very particular kind of joy.

You spend so many years worrying about them, encouraging them and hoping they will find their way, and then suddenly they're off creating lives of their own.

This daughter has a huge fear of flying, but she keeps pushing through it. She doesn't let the fear make her world smaller.

I find that incredibly inspiring.

You don't have to wait until you're fearless to go after the things you want.

Glimmer 3 - Three paintings, one home

Three paintings sold to one collector.

On one day.

This absolutely blew my mind.

Not only because someone chose one of my paintings, but because they chose three to have in their home. I feel incredibly honoured whenever someone connects with a piece of my work enough to want to live with it, and this felt particularly special.

It's also been a particularly difficult year for artists, with the art market feeling noticeably quieter, so this was just the lift I needed.

There is something very lovely about those moments when life gives you a little nudge and says, keep going.

And, on a more practical level, it will bring a little more ease into our lives too — which I am very grateful for.

Glimmer 4 - The people beside you

We're now less than two weeks away from the opening of the Affordable Art Fair in Melbourne, and everyone at Gallery Swan has been working their butts off getting ready.

I've really loved being part of a team heading into this event.

There have definitely been some long days and moments when it has all felt a little overwhelming, but having people around you who are in it with you makes such a difference.

There has been encouragement, problem-solving, laughing and cheering each other on.

It's reminded me that sometimes the glimmer isn't the thing you're working towards.

Sometimes it's the people beside you while you're getting there.

There are still some complimentary tickets available if you'd like to come along. We'd absolutely love to see you.

I'll be at Gallery Swan, Stand G4, so please come and say hello!

Glimmer 5 - When a glimmer becomes a painting

And finally, a little glimmer that has been making me particularly happy this week.

I've created a small collection of paintings called Glimmers for the fair.

They're six little 30 x 30cm framed original paintings, inspired by this very practice of noticing the small moments that make life feel a little lighter.

They're about pausing.

About noticing.

About those tiny flashes of beauty that can so easily pass us by when we're busy getting on with everything else.

And I love that these paintings came from something so simple — deciding to look for five good things each week.

It's funny how something can start as a little experiment and slowly become part of your life.

I've also deliberately made these smaller works more accessible. I know not everyone has thousands of dollars sitting around waiting to be spent on art right now...

Me included! 😂

So I wanted to make some original work that felt a little more within reach.

So those are my five this week.

A beautiful message.

A daughter choosing adventure.

Three paintings finding a home.

The people beside you when things get busy.

And six little paintings born from the simple act of noticing.

It seems the more I look for glimmers, the more I realise they're not necessarily big, life-changing things.

Sometimes they're tiny moments.

Sometimes they're unexpected.

And sometimes, if we're paying attention, they become something more.

I hope you find a few of your own this week.
